The frame of this piece was hand cut from a slab of solid koa wood, sanded and varnished six times before the ceramic tile inlay was added. There are 170 ceramic tile pieces used for the border. Each boarder tile was hand cut into 1/2" pieces and carefully placed around the edge of the koa frame to give this piece a dramatic look.
